Stiliyan Kalitzin has graduated in nuclear and high-energy physics in 1981 and received in 1988 a PhD degree in theoretical physics. In 1990 Stiliyan Kalitzin joined the University of Utrecht, Institute of Theoretical Physics where he continued his work on supersymmetry and supergravity and get involved in research on cellular automata, neural networks and biological modelling. In 1992 he was enrolled as researcher in the Visual Systems Analysis group in the Academic Medical Centre University Hospital in Amsterdam where he contributed to the development and analysis of biological neural network models of the human vision. From 1996 until 1999 S. Kalitzin worked in the Image Sciences Institute at University Medical Centre in Utrecht in the area of multi-scale image analysis, topological structure analysis of images where he holds a patent on faults detection in seismic images. Since 1999, Stiliyan Kalitzin is with the Foundation Epilepsy Institute in the Netherlands (SEIN) as head of the Medical Technology Division. His current research interests are in the fields of electrical and magnetic brain stimulation, image and signal processing, closed-loop epileptic seizure control and computational modelling of normal and epileptic brain activity. He also leads an externally funded program dedicated to automated real-time epileptic seizure detection from video sequences.
Dr Kalitzin is author of more than 100 publications in international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings.
